Featherdale Wildlife Park & The Hunter Zoo
Electrical Upgrades Across Two Iconic Wildlife Parks
MKG Electrical completed a series of essential electrical upgrades at both Featherdale Wildlife Park in Sydney and its sister site, The Hunter Zoo, located in the Hunter Valley. These works focused on improving electrical safety, supporting animal care operations, and enhancing the experience for thousands of visitors across both locations.
Scope of Work
This dual site project required tailored planning and execution across very different environments and operational layouts.
Lighting & Electrical Upgrades
New lighting systems were installed throughout animal enclosures, enhancing visibility for both animal care and visitor safety. High usage visitor zones also received electrical updates to improve overall functionality and presentation.
Infrastructure Improvements
Electrical boards and internal wiring were updated or replaced as needed to bring systems in line with current safety and operational standards. All work was planned to minimise downtime and maintain public access wherever possible.
Testing & Compliance
Thorough inspections and system testing were conducted at both sites to ensure full compliance with relevant safety codes and long term reliability of upgrades.
Challenges and Solutions
Working across two live public facing environments required careful coordination, site specific planning, and a strong focus on operational continuity.
Maintaining Safe Public Access
Both parks remained open during works, requiring close coordination with site managers to schedule work around peak hours and animal handling schedules. Safety barriers and communication plans helped keep visitors and staff protected throughout.
Adapting to Unique Layouts
Each site had unique infrastructure and enclosure designs. Our team adapted installation methods and materials accordingly to ensure upgrades met the practical demands of each space without disrupting animal habitats or operational flow.
Outcome
The upgrades were delivered efficiently across both sites, with improved lighting and power systems now supporting better safety, functionality, and long term reliability. These works also contribute to the broader operational sustainability efforts at Featherdale Wildlife Park and The Hunter Zoo.
